Writing Samples

For my US Public Address class at Furman University I wrote a rhetorical criticism on Carrie Chapman Catt's famous speech, "The Crisis".

This was a piece I wrote for a workshop class I had in my Journalism Principles & Practice course at Furman. I chose to write about the Spirit Airlines flight that experienced engine failure. I interviewed my roommate who was on the flight.

Another feature article I wrote for my Journalism Principles & Practice class was focused on the Furman University Marching Band. I used descriptive language and imagery to describe the scene setting of a halftime performance.

This was a profile piece I wrote for my Journalism Principles & Practice Class. I chose to profile Lucy Foster, a Furman student who worked over the summer with Memphis Teacher Residency. I highlighted how the program and Lucy's passion to change urban education.

Furman is Fashion Forward

This piece was a feature article I wrote for my Journalism Principles & Practice class at Furman University. I chose to focus on Furman's fashion scene for my topic.

I wrote this article in my Journalism Principles & Practice class at Furman University. The topic was to choose something out of the ordinary and relevatory to write about. I chose to write  about a unique tradition at Furman, fountain hopping.

This was another article I wrote for my Journalism Principles & Practice class. We were given one class period to complete an article on a person we had previously interviewed. This helped me to understand the importance of meeting deadlines.
